Regional Enterprise Data Sharing System (REDSS)

The Division of Public Safety Systems (PSS) is responsible for all public safety information technology within Cuyahoga County. The Division houses the office formerly known as the Cuyahoga Regional Information System (CRIS) and now called the Regional Enterprise Data Sharing System (REDSS); however the role of the Public Safety System is much larger than REDSS. PSS also serves as the division responsible for information technology services to the Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner, as well as to Police and Fire Departments throughout Cuyahoga County.

Services Offered by the Division of Public Safety Systems

REDSS offers a variety of services of public safety and criminal justice entities.  While some services are offered free-of-charge, others are offered to paid subscribers only.  These services include: Enhanced Wide Area Network Connections, Enhanced Mobile Computer Communications, Automated Fingerprint Identification System, Automated License Plate Readers, In-Car Camera System, Virtual Private Network, and E-mail.

REDSS is made up of thirteen dedicated staff members and additional staff support from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office, Medical Examiner, and Clerk of Courts.  While there is no formal division between the various information technology staff, employees tend to fall into one of three groups: Infrastructure/ Engineering, Applications/Development, and Public Safety Special Projects.  This allows employees to develop skills and become experts in the various areas, ultimately offering exception service to REDSS customers and community partners.
